School visits are welcome to Elsham Hall Gardens and Country Park throughout the year at any time, provided they have been pre booked. Teachers are also welcome to come on a free preliminary visit to see exactly where your pupils will be coming and to check out the facilities on offer.
Daily Talks for Schools
You can spend time on your own, but we also have free animal talks and nature trails if you are interested.
Animal talks: children can meet the animals in small groups; they can stroke and feed them with the warden. We have lots of rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, birds and two donkeys. While waiting to see the animals other children can spend time playing in our adventure area.
Nature trails: Children can walk around the park with a warden and look at all the different trees and plants. They can feed the carp in the lake and visit the bird hide.
You can have your lunch in the courtyard or anywhere around the park. Please ensure that you do not leave any litter behind.
If the weather is not good enough you can have your lunch in the Garden Room or Tea Room– the wardens will take care of you. Teachers can also buy hot drinks from the wardens.
Please let us know beforehand if you would like to buy any ice creams.
If your children are bringing money they will love to visit our gift shop for souvenirs. Please let us know beforehand if you would like to have the gift shop open.
Please limit the numbers going in at the same time – we suggest groups of ten.
(Subject to Availability)
Our lovely Tea Room can be open by prior arrangement provided there is enough demand for the purchase of light snacks/lunches and drinks. Also we have a working blacksmith’s forge, which again by prior arrangement and subject to the blacksmith’s availability can be open for talks and demonstrations. Please let us know in advance if you require either of these to open.
Dress for an Enjoyable Day
We hope it doesn’t rain, but it may, so please ensure all children have suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Some suggestions for all weather situations are:
Suitable footwear (preferably waterproof) – trails are often muddy and wet, especially during the winter and spring months. A good time to get the wellingtons out
Clothing should also be suitable to enjoy the day as sometimes you can get a little dirty – you don’t want to spoil a school uniform or a nice outfit.
Warm clothing during the winter months – a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves are always useful.
Sun hats and sun cream during the summer – for when we have those hot days
